Breathing on Paper invites its audience to explore various interpretations of paper in the works of contemporary artists. Presented by ARCOLABS, the exhibition examines the idea of paper, not as a mere preparation tool in works of art, but as a significant medium in art that has its own individual voice and also contains the stories of others. The exhibition is held at Art Mai Gallery, Chiang Mai, which opens on 1 November 2017 and runs through 26 November 2017.
The five artists from Thailand, Korea and Indonesia are invited to this exhibition and produce works that rediscover the value and utility of paper. The artists not only do concentrate on the performative possibility of paper as a significant medium in art, but also unfold new interpretations of the paper as a subject matter through combinations with other materials. By drawing, cutting, gluing, threading and printing by hand, the exhibition highlights the artists’ first-hand contact with the materials and physical implementation as an important process of creation.
